Afshar Naderi picKamran Afshar Naderi, graduated from Italy, is a freelance architect, university professor (since 1994) and co-founder of the most influential Iranian architectural magazine, Memar (1997).

Professional career

In 1986, Afshar Naderi started working for an architectural firm based in Italy (Studio Dueti) and subsequently was employed by a research center for urban studies (Fondazione Labó). In 1989 he entered in Renzo Piano Building Workshop to take part in Kansai Airport in Osaka and Lingotto Multifunctional Center in Turin projects. His last years of stay in Italy, was dedicated to industrial architecture, including factories, power plants and industrial installations.
In 1993 Kamran Afshar Naderi came back to Iran and after a short period of working in the public sector, he was employed by a large Consultant Engineering Company and contemporarily performed several projects individually. In 1995, he started a long collaboration with the Italian Embassy, as the trusted architect of the Embassy. During 9 years of cooperation, he executed several restoration projects and studies at the historical sites and buildings belonging to the Embassy. Since 2000 he did several architectural and interior design projects for Iranian and Foreign Embassies such as: Dutch, Austrian, Italian, Danish, Norwegian and the Iranian (in Brasil) Embassies. He has also refurbished and furnished offices of several international companies including Nuovo Pignone (General Electric group), Shell, MAN Ferrostaal, Festo, World Bank, UNDP, Bayer and Roche.
Since 1993, he has designed several residential, educational, office use and industrial projects, that some of which have been reviewed by the local television and international media.

Collaboration with Intertecno/Artelia

In 2004, Afshar Naderi, started a collaboration with an Italian engineering company called Intertecno. As a consultant of Intertecno, he has been involved in several projects such as renovation and restoration of the Italian Embassy Compound in Tehran, renovation of Azadi
5- star hotel and renovation of Bonyad headquarter in Tehran. In 2014 he became the branch manager of the same company in Iran. Later in 2015 the company was taken over and then owned by the international engineering holding Artelia, based in Paris. At the present time, Afshar Naderi is the branch manager of Artelia in Iran. Artelia ongoing projects include two office towers in Elahiyeh and Bucharest districts of Tehran (30,000 and 20,000 m2).

Publications

Afshar Naderi, started his writing carrier by performing several researches on Iranian and Islamic architecture. In 1987, he published his first article entitled “Concept of Space in Persian Mosques” in Italy. In 1991, Edoardo Benvenuto, one of the founders of the history of structural structures, quoted Afshar Naderis’ findings in his book entitled “An Introduction to the History of the Structural Mechanics part II”. In 1994, after coming back to Iran, he published several articles of architectural criticism and theory. In 1994, together with other two people, founded Memar Magazine and in 2000 the most prestigious architectural award called Memar. Until now, he has published over 180 articles. His books, articles, writings and interviews have been published in many countries including Iran, Turkey, United States, Hong Kong, China, Cypress, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Kuwait and England.
He has published three books: Istituzioni colletive nelle citta’ Islamiche (Genoa - 1987), Iranian Architecture (Tehran - 2003), The Gardens of Paradise (Rome – 2007).

Academic Carrier
Since 1994, he has taught at Azad and Soureh universities in Iran. Since his major field of study is the “design Process”, he has held several private courses and seminars about the same subject. Since 2001, he has delivered several lectures in foreign countries including Italy, Turkey, Cypress, Kuwait, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Malesia. He has participated in several Television and Radio programs. In addition to that, recently Jam-e-Jam, the Iranian Satellite channel, dedicated two documentaries to his life. Afshar Naderi has taken part in several local and international competition and award Jury sessions.
Art Carrier
As an artist, he is interested in large scale artworks, executed with different materials and media. For execution of his projects, he collaborates with artisans and craftsmen. His recent work Tree of Life (9.5 x 3.5 m), is a contemporary interpretation of an Islamic geometrical ceramic decoration. Tree of life is the result of 3 years of research about ancient iconology, geometrical patterns and traditional craftsmanship. The work is made of around 3000 hand painted ceramic tiles mixed with traditional Iranian mirror work. The work is planned to be installed at the l'Institut français de civilisation musulmane in Lyon, by December 2018.
Fields of activity
Afshar Naderi’s office is particularly specialized in international and diplomatic office buildings (including diplomatic residences), as well as industrial buildings. His activity covers a wide range of services including: assistance to owner, preliminary and feasibility studies, real-estate advisory, layout and concept design, detailed design, interior and furniture design, tender documentation and assistance to tender, assistance to purchase of construction materials and equipment from local and international sources, supervision, HSE Management and supervision, assistance to commissioning and handover, execution (just for the interior and refurbishment projects) and office move.
His office can handle all the above mentioned according to the international standards in Persian, English and Italian language.
